Hcg diet instructions: The diet itself, nutrition and rules.
Hcg protocol can last from 23 to 43 days, depending on how much weight you need to lose. After 43 days you must take at least a month off before doing another course. Hcg affects your brain in a way that in combination with a VLCD (very low calorie diet) mobilizes your fat deposits and prevents cravings and headaches that are so often associated with low calorie diets. The diet has proven to be effective on millions of overweight people around the world, that lose on the average from 1 – 2 pounds per day.
You can only eat food from the approved foods list and must not exceed a total of 500 calories per day. Water intake must be even and at least 60 to 80 ounces per day. Water helps with correct digestion, you should also eat a lot of fiber and protein and as little carbohydrates and fats as possible. After you finish your diet, you do a follow up with 21 days of 1200 calories max without sugar and starch while slowly adding other foods such as fruit and dairy products that are not allowed during the 500 calorie diet. Many fear they will not be able to go through with a diet where only 500 calories are consumed, but due to each pound of fat burned contains roughly 2000 calories your body receives ample calories, 2500 in total. Exercise, apart from low intensity yoga or walking for no more then 30 minutes a day is prohibited, because due to low calories consumed your body could shut down and go into a state of starvation preventing maximum fat loss.
Typical nutrition while on 500 calorie diet phase.
2 x Melba toast or bread stick ( must be eaten between meals )
2 x apple (must be eaten between meals)
2 x 100 gram protein ( you can choose from: ground beef, fish, chicken breast, shrimp, lobster or crab ) with one kind of vegetables as a side dish ( you can choose from: lettuce or any green salad, tomato, asparagus, spinach, cucumber, celery, onion, cabbage, beet green)
You must drink lots of water, at least 60 – 80 ounces a day, that is 8 to 10 glasses. Water also helps with cravings. You are allowed to drink the juice of one whole lemon each day.
Pepper, salt, garlic, herbs and spices are allowed, as well as mineral water, tea and coffee. No dairy products and no sugar (only stevia is allowed) and no fat.
A typical day during the 500 VLCD diet looks like this:
Breakfast: most just drink coffee.
Morning snack: one apple and a glass of water.
Lunch: 100 grams protein from any of the meats on the list accompanied by any of the vegetables from the list and one melba toast or grissini stick. Glass of water.
Afternoon snack: one apple and a glass of water.
Dinner: 100 grams protein from any of the meats on the list accompanied by any of the vegetables from the list and one melba toast or grissini stick. Glass of water.
Before bed: Glass of water.
When either 20 or 40 days on 500 calories are up and you use up all your hcg you must do additional 3 days during which all the hcg is excreted from the body. Day one is the same as the rest as there is still hcg in your body, but days two and especially three can be harder to endure, because you are eating only 500 calories without taking hcg.
After your body is completely cleared of hcg you enter the maintenance phase where you can eat 1200 calories and enjoy a wider variety of foods, but fat and carbohydrates are still prohibited. During this phase you must maintain the same weight, you had, when you finished your last hcg injection, so please weigh yourself every morning.
If you gain over 2 pounds do a steak day where you skip breakfast (coffee or tea only), skip lunch (you must drink a lot of water during this time). Dinner is a 15 ounce stake and one tomato.
Keep counting your calories and make sure the portions are sized right so you do not cross 1200 calories.
During maintenance phase keep drinking a glass of water before every meal, dairy products such as milk, cheese and cottage cheese are again allowed, nuts too. Keep eating lean meats, turkey and pork are allowed again as are fruits, but they must be low in carbohydrates: apples, oranges, pears, blueberries, strawberries and peaches.
Cosmetics is again allowed, anything you want and creams and lotions for the face and body. Slowly start exercising again so you will regain stamina and strength and will be able to exercise with full force after 3 weeks maintenance phase is over.
After you finish the 3 week maintenance phase you can eat anything you want, but carbohydrates should only be eaten before lunch, simple carbohydrates are best avoided and should be eaten only once in a while. Simple carbohydrates contain sugar and include: corn syrup, beer, maple syrup, sugar, molasses, liquor or sweet juice. Complex carbohydrates contain starch and include bread, pasta, beans, corn, pastries, potatoes and products made out of potatoes like fries and chips.
Foods with high sugar and starch content are the ones that will make you fat, especially when they are combined with unhealthy fats, such as butter, animal fat and oil, bacon and such.
